The murderer was never caught. Paranormal investigators have caught many events of paranormal activity. Some of these terrifying events include hearing children’s voices, objects moving on their own and things being thrown at people. While the case is still unsolved and the motive remains a mystery, but the public is currently able to book tours and overnight stays in the home.

One of the names often used to describe Portland was “Shanghai Capital of the World”. Originally, the Shanghai Tunnels were an area for businesses such as bars, and restaurants to acquire their supplies that would come in from the water in the area. These tunnels typically connected to basements of the structures for the means of convenience. Many individuals who walk the tunnels in Portland have stated that they have heard moans, talking, screaming, and even the sound of crying. While it is believed that many of these sounds may be a result of the energy expelled in the area, and maybe residual based hauntings, there are many who firmly believe that these are the sounds of truly intelligent hauntings. The opinion is carried that these intelligent hauntings realize that they have been trapped in the tunnels and because most do not know how they got into the tunnels to start with, they have a difficult time finding their way out.

The LaLaurie house is allegedly a place where many slaves were frighteningly tortured. On the morning of April 10, 1834, a fire broke out in the luxurious house owned by Delphine LaLaurie. When help arrived, several slaves were found malformed or in awful condition, and eventual, y bodies were exposed buried in the yard. It’s said to be haunted by the ghosts of those who were starved, tortured, killed and chained in the upper part of the building.

The Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, Missouri is one of the most haunted houses in all of the United States. The Mansion (house) was built in the early 1860’s and was purchased by William Lemp both as a residence and a place where his brewery could continue to grow and flourish. The Mansion was splendid with 33 rooms, a Victorian look, and a basement as well as three floors and an attic room, which had been made into two bedrooms.

The Lemp family got pleasure from their brewery’s accomplishment. They were pleasant and survived in the house very well. But their lives were also full of tragedy. In 1901, William Lemp’s favorite son Frederick passed away and the dreams also finished with him that he might take over the business. William Lemp was in trouble after his son’s death. Eventually he killed himself in the home in 1904. A few years later, William Lemp’s wife passed away due to Cancer. William Lemp Jr. inherited the business, but he was a womanizing, money-spending (according to reports). In 1922, William Jr. was so depressed about selling off the brewery. He shot himself in his first floor office in the mansion, which was the same room that his father killed himself.

The tragedies just kept coming and finally the home fell into disrepair. In 1949, it was sold off and was transformed into a boarding house. Soon after, the hauntings started. This turned people away and the Lemp Mansion turned into a flop house. In 1975, the place was saved. It was renovated, restored and turned into an upscale bed and breakfast with a fine restaurant and a place to hold events. Every Sunday night they have a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater and the place is, of course, very popular with ghost hunters.

Over the years, suicides have taken place behind the walls of this grand residence in the Midwest.

Many people believe that Eastern State Penitentiary (Prison) is haunted. It was built in 1829, Eastern State Penitentiary is a former prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since the 1940s, officers and prisoners reported mysterious visions and seeing scary things in the ancient prison. The penitentiary (Prison) was deserted in 1971 but people still have strange things happen to them today. More than 1,200 prisoners died here, killed by illness, at the hands of their fellow prisoners or suicide.
