The Date of Christmas

His birth date is unknown because there is little information about his early life. No one knows the real birthday of Jesus! No date is given in the Bible that how long is Christmas celebrated. So why we celebrate Christmas on 25th December? The early Christians surely had many arguments on the subject of when it should be celebrated! There is disagreement among scholars on when Jesus was born. Christians celebrate Jesus’ birthday on December 25. The name of ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians memorize that Jesus died for us and then came back to life. The ‘Christ-Mass’ service was the only one that was permitted to take place after sunset (and before sunrise the next day), so people had it at Midnight! So we get the name Christ-Mass, edited to Christ.

The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th as the birth date of Jesus occurred in 336 AD in an early Roman calendar. Pope Julius officially declaration of 25 December as a holiday honoring Jesus’ birthday.

Most Christians probably can’t imagine Christmas on any other day than December 25, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, for the first three centuries of Christianity’s existence, Jesus Christ’s birth wasn’t celebrated at all. The Christian’s most significant holiday was Epiphany on January 6, which memorialized the arrival of the Magi after Jesus’ birth, and Easter, which celebrated Jesus’ rebirth. The first official officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on 25th December in an early Roman calendar from 336 A.D. But was Jesus actually born on December 25 in the first place? Probably not. The Bible doesn’t mention his exact birthday, and the Nativity story has conflicting clues.

Christmas is a beautiful time for celebrations begins from the beginning of December itself although Christmas falls on December 25 every year. Whereas the customs and the way of life are pretty similar in most places and they differ slightly keeping in mind the local rituals of the society. Here’s how people celebrate Christmas around the world.

There are generally 5 ways to celebrate Christmas around the world.

  1. Family get-together:

Christmas is usually a very social holiday. Usually, people like to spend time with friends and family to celebrate the holiday. Most families attempt to get together to celebrate on Christmas Eve (December 24) or Christmas Day (December 25). This informal gathering is called a get-together.

Often, people live far-off from their relatives, so it may not be possible to be with their family on Christmas. In this case, people will come together with friends (or their friends’ families) to have a special dinner or a Christmas party.

Every family has a different way of life, traditions, cultures, and customs depending their history, society, and values. But the common tradition is to be with family or friends on Christmas.

  1. Gift giving and gift exchanges:

Loads of people celebrate Christmas by giving gifts to their friends, family members or coworkers. This is called a gift exchange. First of all, normally people wrap the gifts they give, which mean that they put decorative wrapping paper around the gift. They might also put the gift in a gift bag. Then, when people exchange the gifts, they unwrap (or open) them to see what’s inside.

  1. Decorations:

The most common decoration is perhaps a Christmas tree, and most of the families that celebrate Christmas have one in their house. Some people buy their trees from large tree lots, and others go to Christmas tree farms and choose a tree to cut down.

Some families might use artificial (fake) trees since they don’t make a mess. The Christmas trees also usually have some Christmas lights. Many people also try to beautify the outside of their houses with Christmas lights. Some people decorate with lots of lights and merry Christmas decorations outside their house and in their yard.

  1. Nativity and Nativity shows:

The birth of Jesus is also referred to as the Nativity. Many church services or masses include plays called Nativity shows, where children act out the story of Jesus’ birth.

Many churches put up a Nativity scene on display during the holiday season. These generally include Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and other characters from the Nativity story.

According to the story, Jesus was born in a manger, which is a part of a farm where animals sleep due to that, many Nativity scenes consist of animals like sheep and cows.

  1. Christmas parties and Outdoor fun:

Christmas parties to be celebrated at office area where all office staff get together and take pleasure in the Christmas party. Secondly, family get-togethers or parties among friends to celebrate Christmas. There are usually snacks, drinks, and music, and there are often different types of games to be played. Even if it’s really cold outside, there’s something about the Christmas season that makes people want to get outside to enjoy the fresh air and snow. If there is snow on the ground, one option is to go on a sleigh ride.

If you feel like getting some exercise instead of sitting in a sleigh, you can go ice skating or snowshoeing. Both of those require special equipment (ice skates and snowshoes), which you can usually rent somewhere. You may need to practice before you can do them well, especially ice skating, but they’re both a lot of fun!

If you reside near some hills or mountains, some other enjoyable outdoor activities include sledding, skiing, and snowboarding. Personally, I prefer sledding because it’s a lot cheaper than going to a ski resort. It’s also really simple—all you need is a sled or something to slide on!

So whenever you celebrate Christmas, remember that you’re celebrating a real event that happened about 2000 years ago, that God sent his Son into the world as a Christmas present for everyone!

Merry Christmas to everyone and all.

Merry Christmas
