World’s first mobile phone was presented in front of the world on 3rd April 1973. It was manufactured by an American engineer Martin Cooper. This was the first mobile phone in the world which was made for the common man because earlier radio phones and wireless phones were available but mostly used by the army.

Mobile Phone Service Launched In Different Countries

World’s first commercial cellular phone service was started in 1979 by Japanese company NTT in Tokyo. In 1981, mobile phone services were started in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden named Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT). In 1983, the US-based telephone network, named Ameritech, was launched in Chicago, USA. In India, first non-commercially mobile phone service was launched on 15th August 1995 in Delhi.

  1. Today we used light and slim phones, but you would be surprised to know that the weight of the Motorola Diana TAC was 1.1 kg, which was almost ten times heavier than today’s phones. Also, this mobile was 13 cm thick and 4.45cm wide, which was compared to brick or shoes.
  2. In today’s time, mobile phones take 15 to 20 minutes to charge and its back up capacity is 1 to 2 days. But the world’s first mobile phone took 10 hours to fully charge, despite that it could only last for 20 minutes.
  3. The weight of the first mobile phones battery was four to five times higher than today’s mobile phones. The phone provided back up to 8 hours.
  4. The first mobile handset launched by Motorola in 1983, which price was approximately 2.5 lakh rupees and the name of that mobile handset was Motorola Dyna TAC 8000x.
  5. In 1979, First-Generation (1G) technology was introduced in Japan.
  6. In 1991, 2G technology was started in Finland.
  7. After ten years of the introduction of 2G technology, 3G technology came in 2001, which was started by Japanese company NTT DoCoMo.
